Emergency Medical Responder

The purpose of this course is to provide participants the knowledge and skills necessary to work as an emergency medical responder (EMR) to help sustain life, reduce pain and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until more advanced medical personnel take over. The course content and activities will prepare you to make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in a medical emergency. The course teaches the skills an EMR needs to act as a crucial link in the emergency medical services (EMS) system.

This comprehensive training gives professional responders the knowledge and skills necessary to work as an emergency medical responder until more advanced medical personnel take over. Hands-on, scenario-based training exceeds EMS Educational Standards and is approved by the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council.

This course runs approximately 51 hours.

Certification Requirements
Lifeguard CPR

1. Attend all class sessions.

2. Participate in all course activities.

3. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios.

4. Demonstrate competency in the final skills scenarios.

5. Pass both the Emergency Medical Response final written exam and the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers final written exam with minimum grades of 80 percent for each exam.
